ENGLISHMEN WIN

BRISBANE, Nov. 1

In the golf match, Britain v. Queensland, the singles resulted as follows (British players mentioned first) : Hon. Michael Scott beat J. N. Radcliffe, 4 and 3. , o L. Garnett beat B. Gill, 4 and 3. McLean beat C. R. Boyce, 3 and 2. T. Bourn and J. N. Neil, all square. The four-ball matches resulted: — Scott and Garnett lost to Radclifl'e and Boyce, 3 and 2. McLean and Bourn boat Gill and Neil, 1 up. Britain won by 4-i matches to Is. Although the British amateurs had the better of the singles they had much keener fights m tho four-ball. McLean, with an approximate round of 69, played the soundest golf in the singles, but his opponent, Boyce, did well to hold him until the sixteenth. Scott, without revealing brilliant golf, {bayed steadily. Radcliff had an off Garnett achieved some of the longest drives seen in Brisbane, frequently well over 300 yards. Bourn was hard pressed by Neil, but a brilliant spint enabled him to halve the match. Both were erratic in driving. In the four-hall game Radcliffe and Boyce played in top form' to beat Scott and Garnett. The British players appeared to lose touch, one reason probably being the heat.
