Mr J. P. Burley, who is visiting Palmerston North for the Spring Show, is president of the Buller A. and P. Association.
Major L. Potter, who has been attached to the Central Command staff ofethe Defence Department at Palmerston North, has left for Hamilton, having been transferred to that centre. Rev. D. J. Davies, B.Sc., vicar of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Terrace End, has been appointed examining chaplain to the Bishop of the Diocese. He has also been appointed an examiner for the Board of Theological Studies. „ Hon. E. A. Ransom (Minister of Lands), who recently underwent a minor operation in a private hospital at Dannevirke, returned to his home yesterday. Though making satisfactory progress, it will be some days before he can resume Iris Ministerial duties in Wellington.—Press Association.
The death occurred at Auckland on Wednesday of Mr William Rattray, aged 82, after a short illness. Mr Rattray was honorary secretary of St. John Ambulance Association in Auckland for 39 years. He was one of Auckland’s pioneers, having arrived with his parents from England in 1853. His Grace Archbishop O’Shea, S.M., D.D., accompanied by Rev. Dr. McRae and Rev. Fathers Fletcher (Buckle Street) and Uhlenburg (Kilbirnie) will leave Wellington by the Marama on November 9 for Sydney en route to Melbourne, where they will participate in the Australian National Eucharistic Congress to be held from December 2 to December 9. The party is expected to return before Christmas. Very Rev. Monsignor MacManus (Palmerston North) and Rev. Fathers Cashman (Paliiatua) and Guinane (Dannevirke) will also attend the congress, and will leave Auckland by the Mariposa to-day for Australia.
