— -hREMIT BEFORE HARBOUR BOARDS’ CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 2. Seeking to prohibit the engagement by public bodies of Government or superannuated officials in receipt of a pension more than ££oo a year, a remit from Otago came before the Harbour Boards’ Conference this morning. The remit was defeated. Mr E. .T. Howard, - M.P.. chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, said he agreed with the resolution, but thought it rather dangerous as he considered the wording would not express what the conference meant. Another delegate said the strength of public opinion could be left to deal with the cjuestion.
