SYDNEY WOOL SALES.
ADVANCE MAINTAINED. SYDNEY, Oct. 31. At the wool sales 9266 bales were offered and 8470 were sold at auction, also 1371 privately. ' H lO .recent advance in prices was fully maintained to-day. The market was. very firm, with a widened demand for better class wools. Greasy Merino made 19sd, constituting a new record for the current wool-selling season. This was secured for six bales from Yass. LAMBS FOR LONDON. GISBORNE EARLY SHIPMENTS. TOO LATE FOR CHRISTMAS. GISBORNE, Oct. 30. The Gisborne Freezing Works opened yesterday for the killing of lambs, but it is expected that after to-day they will closo down again for a period of several days, an unusual position regarding shipping arrangements depriving farmers of any incentive to kill early. Not only will the first boat to load be too late to catch tho Christmas market at Home, but the second boat, which is not due here until November 10, will unload in London practically at tho same time. Farmers, therefore, will gain nothing by early killing, and consequently most prefer to keep their lambs in paddocks until tho time of arrival of the second vessel. Yesterday’s killings amounted to between two and three thousand, and it is expected that a similar number will be killed to-day. Space has been reserved on the first boat for approximately 16.100 lambs, and what is not taken up by lambs will be used for beef. No price schedule so far is available for Gisborne, and buyers who are operating are promising prices equal to those paid for the third shipment from main ports, which is expected to be in the vicinity of Bd.
