PAHIATUA
PAHIATUA, Oct. 31. St. Peter’s Anglican Church Ladies’ Guild’s bazaar was held yesterday. The afternoon’s activities were declared open by the Mayor (Mr J. I). Wilson), who was introduced by Rev. V. A. Rianchi. At 9 p.m. the vicar announced the result of operations, the sum of nearly £7O being taken. This was considerably in excess of last year. He informed the gathering that Mrs J. I>. C. Crewe (president of the guild) had received a letter, to be opened after the bazaar was over and the takings known. This letter, then opened, was found to contain a cheque from “a country parishioner” for the sum of £SO. I'lio announcement was greeted with applause and cheers were given for the anonymous donor. The vicar thanked the members of the guild for the work they had done during the year. The fully laden stalls had borne testimony to this and the country people, particularly, had also given very liberally. All the helpers he earnestly thanked. Dancing followed to the music of Miss Mabel’ Hirst (piano) and Mr Alec AVade (violin). Mr C. E. B. Irving made a capable M.C. Supper was served, Mrs R. C. Austin being in charge. Mrs C. M. Davidson, of Hamilton, is visiting her daughter, Mrs W. H. Murch. Mr L. J. Heayns, of Mangamutu, manager of the Pahiatua Cooperative Dairy Co., Ltd., returned to-day from a* health-recruiting visit to Otaki.
