TROTTING CUP CANDIDATE.

INDIANAPOLIS UNDER CLOUD. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 31. The New Zealand Trotting Cup favourite, Indianapolis, is definitely under a cloud. On Thursday last he split the hoof of his oft iront foot. Tho injury improved rapidly under treatment, and the horse was started on Saturday in the mile and a half race at Mot.ukarara, in which ho made a break, mainly due to the irregular state of the track. He completed Saturday’s journey in 3.15 3-5, which was regarded as a splendid trial for the New Zealand Cup, for which he has been ruling a firm favourite. Indianapolis was worked over two miles at Addington yesterday and hit out in fine style. When cooled off, however, ho was docidedly lame, and tho injured part of his foot was very painful. His trainer, F. C. Dunlevey, will continue poulticing the foot, and tho veterinary surgeon advising and Dunlevey are still hopeful that the foot will respond to treatment and that tho horse will be able to continue his preparation without interruption. Dunlevey will not, however, work him again at Addington. Ho has decided to complete his work on the grass course at New Brighton, where he will be taken to-morrow and on Saturday to do his final trials.
