PENSION SCHEME.
UPTON SINCLAIR’S POLICY. Upton Sinclair, the novelist, who is Democratic candidate for the Governorship of California, promises that if elected on November 6 he will give a pension of 'SO dollars (£10) a month to every person over GO who has lived in the State for three years. His taxation policy has aroused the most strenuous opposition, and it is reported that since his success in the pre-selection ballot State, city, and country bonds have declined in value by 50.000,000 dollars (£10,000,000). Hollywood film. companies have threatened to move to Florida if Mr Sinclair is elected and carries out his threat to treble the taxes on movies. Frank Merriam. the Republican candidate, said: “Human misery should not he made a laboratory for experiments.”
