QUEEN CARNIVAL.
The Garrison Band organisation continues to make good progress under the capable direction of Mr W. H. Brown, whose initiative has been responsible for the introduction of new and novel features to the campaign. A stall has been opened at the Showgrounds Hall and a number of willing helpers under Mrs D. Evans are at present working in connection with the various competitions which have been inaugurated. A number of valuable prizes are being offered and these are proving particularly attractive. The Beryl Oakley ball, which is being held in the Jade Tea Rooms, P.D.C. Buildings, this evening, promises to be a popular entertainment. A large number of tickets have been sold and in order to meet the wishes of visitors evening dress will bo optional. On Sunday evening at the State Theatre another concert is to be given, and it is hoped that those who were unfortunate enough not to bo able to obtain admittance last Sunday, will reserve on this occasion. Ivan Perrin, the wizard of the piano, is returning from AVanganui specially for the occasion. He will appear in new synchronised numbers. Fred Gedson’s Dance Band will bo in attendance and will render the latest hits. Mr I. Mcßrcarty, the well-known society tap dancer, will definitely appear on this occasion and new and novel numbers will bo given. A complete change of programme is in view and, as stated above, reserves arc absolutely essential. Seats may be booked at a cost of Is each, and the box plan is now open at the N.Z.I. Coy.’s bookshop, the Square (near Watson Bros.) and also Leary’s Pharmacy (Mr R. L. C. Aitchison).
