WAR VETERANS

The quarterly meeting of the Palmerston North South African War Veterans’ Association was held on Monday. The president (Major Bostvorth) ? resided over a good attendance. Lieut, lam, R.N., and Mr Itossin -were elected honorary members. After the formal business was disposed of the evening was devoted to social talk and discussion. Mr Rossin served in De Wet’s commando during the South African war. and as several members present had fought against the redoubtable Boer leader there was a very interesting exchange of war episodes. Mr Rossin explained bow the wily De Wet was so successful in outwitting the British troops on several occasions. Eventually, however, Kitchener’s block-house system brought the enemy’s operations to a close.
