FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent). FOXTON, Oct. 30. The work of demolishing the engine shed and accommodation shed adjoining the railway yards has been completed and the yard presents a vacant appearance. The friends of Mr J. Hannah, of Thynne Street, will regret to learn that lie is at present an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. On Sunday afternoon the Silver Band rendered a programme of music in Sea View Park. Several cases of scarlet fever have been reported in the town. Sunday was children’s day at the Presbyterian Church and there was an excellent attendance at the evening service, when the young people occupied the choir accommodation. The lesson was read by Alex Ebbett, and Rev. A. Fotheringham preached an appropriate sermon. The collection was taken up by Linden Knewstubbs and Ethel Walls, during which the chidlren contributed an anthem. Solos were rendered during the service by Beverly Barron and Trevor Everton. On Sunday evening, at the conclusion of the service, the members of tlie Presbyterian Church choir met for tlie purpose of wishing Mr M. Baird, one of their number, happiness on his 21st birthday. Mr R. T. Betty congratulated Mr Baird on having reached Ills majority. All■ Baird suilably replied. There was a good attendance at the Salvation Army Hull, lust evening, on the occasion of a farewell to Adjutant and Mrs Grey, who arc leaving for Taumarunui. _ In the speeches made during the evening the speakers all referred to the good work carried out by Adjutant and Mrs Grey during their residence in Foxton and expressed the hope that they would find happiness in their new sphere of life. Supper was served by the young people.
