GILT-EHGEH SECURITIES FIRM
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 27. Under-consumption of credit and capital, which is one of the outcomes of the world’s economic disorder, has been reflected during tlie week in the continued strength of the gilt-edged market.
Yesterday new high levels were recorded by several British Government securities following substantial buying by big financial institutions. Allowing for deduction of the halfyear’s interest, the price of War Loan 3J, per cent, stock was 8s 9d higher at £lO4 13s 9d, and 3i per cent, conversion stock changed hands at £lO5 15s. Yesterday’s sharp fall of 4s 8.3 d in the rates for'Treasury bills to 9s 7.42 d per cent, 'represents one of the biggest changes in the rate that has occurred in a single week for several years, and Tt gave a fresh upward drive to gilt-edged securities. The markets are closed to-day.
