HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING
The following report covering the activities of the year was adopted at the annual meeting of the Feilding Horticultural Society:—The activities of the society for the year were the holding of two shows. These were of excellent quality, the flowers being of a very good standard, thereby causing the judges much work. AA’e also had two lectures. The first of these was kindly given by Canon Petrie, his subject being “Roses.” This was greatly enjoyed by all who heard it and the practical help given by his instruction should be an aim for the society to keep steadily in view. Tam was followed by an address on the fertilisation of plants by Air Alalcolm, F.A.Ii.S. The second lecture was a lantern lecture by Dr. H. H. Allan, given in the Parish Hall to a large audience. The slides shown were taken from botanical gardens in many parts of the world, and showed many points of horticulture not known to all of us. At this lecture, too, we had a table on which were exhibited some interesting things grown in local gardens. AVe have again all our old friends and some new ones to thank for help received, notably those who came to judge, the stewards, the donors of trophies, the subscribers to our funds and the High School pupils for their continued interest in the younger exhibitors of the show. AA’e have always found that music and flowers can be appreciated together, and the ladies who have contributed so gracefully of their talents deserve and have the sincerest thanks of the society. AA’e regret our membership is not a large one and look to the future to see it a really large and representative one. AA’e regret to report the loss of our valued friends. Airs Lethbridge, Air Goodall, Alr AVeightman and Air Billman. Our president and ATiss Karsten have placed the use of rooms at our disposal, which is a great assistance to the society.
