CARNARVON

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ' CARNARVON, Oct. 27.

The hall was crowded last night on the occasion of the concert of the Clydesdale Sunday School. The stage had boon decorated for the concert, and reflected much credit on those who had been instrumental in making it. so. Visitors were present from Bulls, Marton, Awahuri and Oliakca. The presence of a concert party from Awahuri considerably enlivened the proceedings. The children carried out their part of tlic programme very well, and the result must have been very gratifying to their teachers. One itom, “Let’s prow Old Together,” was enacted very well, and was repeated by special request later on in the evening. The dresses of the children in some of the items were very pretty, and Mrs F. Zajonskowski wlio made them was accorded a vote of thanks. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr K. Zajonskowski, superintendent of the Sunday school, thanked all for attending and giving the performers such a good hearing. To those who came from a distance to give items he extended his thanks; and to Mesdaincs Quinlan, Powell, Woods, Newport and F. Zajonskowski, who had assisted in the training of the children, Mrs P. Scott, who had so kindly played the music. for them. The programme consisted of the following: Piano duet, aKthlccn and Ida Maxwell; “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” by the tiny tots; .“Let’s Grow Old Together” (in costumes), those taking part being Langley and Joan Genriiils, Maurice and Delcio Zajonskowski (as the “Bride and Bridegroom”), Avis Teague and Patsy Quinlan, Ken and Mary Powell (as “Granny and Grandfather”); song, “Old Spinning Wheel,” Miss . AdaNewport; playette, “Little Red . Riding Hood,” Ivan McKenzie, Delcie and Maurice Zajonkoski and Alan Luxford; monologues, “The Old Woman W' 1( ) Lived in a Shoo” and “Nothing Suited Him,” Miss Mclvor (Marton) ; Highland Fling, Avis Teague, Mary Powell, Patsy Quinlan, Marjory Quinlan, Pat. Grossart, and Jean Gcnnills; playette, “The Sleeping Beauty,” Avis Teague, Jean Genmlls, Patsy Quinlan, Mary Powell, Delcio Zajonskowski, Ida Maxwell, Joan Gcnnills Jim McTavish, Kcn Powcli, J oh:!. Luxford. The Maori concert party, comprising Mrs v\ • Ward. Misses A. Karchana and K. Ponckc and Messrs P. Karauti and H. Lawson were next on the stage and delighted the audience with songs, pois and hakas. Then “Sing a Song of Sixpence 1 ’ was presented, those taking part being Mary Powell, Avis Teague, Jean Genmlls, Ida Maxwell. Patsy Quinlan, Percy Teague, and Bill Quinlan, Miss Mclvor of Marton sang “Love s 0 d Sweet Song” and for an encore ‘Sally Horner.” The accompanomcnt was played by her sistc-r; the “Valley of the. Moon was sung by Avis Teague, Patricia■ Giossart and Mary Powell; a poi dance by the children was next, those taking part being Ada Newport, Kathleen Maxwell, Patsy Quinlan, Mary Powell, Pat Grossart, Joan Gcnnills, Avis Teague and Marjory Quinlan; the canoe poi was done by the same children, with Ken Powell as the warrior; the whole company then sang ‘ Goodbye to All” and brought to a close a very popular concert. After supper, dancing was commenced, those supplying the music being the Maori concert parly, Mr Sasoni and Mr Stewart. A lucky spot dance was won bv Mrs Quinlan and Mr A. Powell. Mrs Ward and Mr 11. Reeve wore success ful in the Monte Carlo waltz. Mr Graham Dawson, Wellington provincial organiser for tho New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union, was in tho district during tho week on business connected with the union. He was accompanied by Mr W Miss l °lsabcl Maxwell, of the nursing staff of the Mastcrton Hospital, has been visiting her parents. Mr and Mrs .Hugh Maxwell. Miss Bull, of Napier, is the guest of Mrs Rose. Mrs Richardson is the guest of Mrs Goldfinch Tho Carnarvon Tennis Club conducted a Yankee tourney on Labour Day the winners being Mrs Davidson and A. Rose.
