THE STOCK EXCHANGE

GILT-EDGED SHARES RISE. SPECULATIVE ISSUES DECLINE. SUPER-ABUNDANCE OF MONEY. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received October 29, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 27.

The Stock Exchange this week has been somewhat peculiar, for while giltedged securities have been soaring upwards, with several British Government stocks reaching new records, there has been a pronounced decline in speculative shares, with a large amount of liquidation in connection with settlement in industrial shares, South African mines, oils and teas. The strength of the gilt-edged issues was largely due to a super-abundance of money and a demand lor investment stocks by big financial institutions, while a certain amount of support came from foreign sources. The weakness of tho industrial shares was due primarily to over-speculation.
