ROWING REGATTA.

WANGANUI EIGHT BEATEN,

MELBOURNE, Oct. 28

A fast flood on the Yarra hampered the great Centenary rowing regatta on Saturday, when for the first -time in history a New Zealand eight rowed in Melbourne. Owing to the strong current, the centre stream gave an advantage, and all beats in the senior eights were won in centre positions. University beat Wanganui in one heat by a quarter of a length, despite the New Zealand crew’s strong finishing effort. i Smith (Waitemata) was second and Abbot (Petone) first in tlieir respective heats of the handicap sculls. Abbott was beaten .by two lengths in the final.
