YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES.

Very little change was seen in the quotations on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, the markets being generally steady to firm. Government loans had a slack demand, the only recorded business being a sale of 4 per cent, stock, 1940, at £lO5 2s 6d. Wellington City 4£ per cent., 1944, were wanted at £lO6 ss, and Wellington Gas 6J per cent., 1941, were 5s up at £lO3 15s. Bank shares showed minor changes, New Zealand selling at 49s 3d. N.Z. Guarantee Corporation were very firm on sales at 5s s|d and 5s 6d. N.Z. Refrigerating, paid, moved up to sell at 19s 9d. Woollen shares held their ground at the recently advanced rates, Kaiapoi gaining 2d at 13s lOd. Kaitangata Coal sold at 21s 6d. Keen interest developed in breweries, New Zealand recovering to 49s Id, sellers 49s 6d. Carlton were firm at 50s, Tui were 6d off at 565, and buyers ca.nie in to quote Staples at 29s 6d. Colonial Sugar were easier at £77 10s, sellers £7B 15s, a sale being made for Australian delivery at £77. Other industrial and trading issues were quiet. Mining shares were dull and little changed.
