AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
FEILDING CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING.
The annual meeting of the Feilding Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held last night, the president (Mr R. A. Levy) being in the chair. A fair number of members were present.
In moving the adoption of the report the chairman said that during the season under review the club had conducted 12 road races, and 12 track races in addition to various cup events, and a successful sports gathering on Kowhai Park in conjunction with the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band. The points prize had been won by A. Eade, with a total of 58J points while D. Lamberton had been runner-up with 29J points. Both members deserved praise for the manner in which they had performed. The trophies annexed by them had been well earned as the result of diligent training. Mr Levy said he was pleased to be able to announce that the recent cycling and amateur athletic association controversy had been smoothed over and .that once more cyclists and athletes were in harmony, although controlled by separate bodies.
In regard to the domestic matters of the club the president referred to the generosity of the Feilding J3or-
I ough Council in preparing a suitable track at Johnston Park. Of this action the club was greatly appreciative, for although Kowhai Park was the larger ground, it lacked the facilities available at Johnston Park. An enclosed track at the latter ground, together with the fact that training on it would be available, should result in fast times being recorded and the future success of the club assured. The speaker went on to refer to the work that had been done in the interests of the club by the committee, and extended to the members his personal appreciation of their efforts. To the lion, secretary (Mr C. Simmons) the president addressed himself in terms of high praise, stating that no organisation could wish for a better or more capable official than Mr Simmons had proved himself to be. MiLevy recalled that at the beginning of the year he had promised to donate a trophy, and he had much pleasure in stating that this would be forthcoming shortly with the suggestion that it be awarded to the club member taking part in the most races promoted by tne club. Concluding, Mr Levy mentioned the valuable services the club had received from Mr Barltrop, bon. auditor, donors of trophies, and the Press for generous publicity of club affairs, and formally moved the adoption of the report. The secretary read a statement of the club’s finances, showing a credit
balance of approximately £B. The report and balance-sheet were adopted and the following officers elected : —Patron, Mr H. Smithers ; president, Mr 11. A. Levy; vice-presi-dents, Mrs It. Bevan, Messrs C. E. Taylor (Mayor), T. Collins, 11. Bickers, D. Barrett, C. Robson, E. Groombridge; hon. secretary, Mr C. Simmons; committee, Messrs W. McPhail, J. Lamberton, J. Madden, R. Bickers, A. Eade, J. A. Eerguson, H. Cocker; trustees, Messrs H. Smithers and F. Groombridge; hon. auditor, Mr J. E. Barltrop; delegate to Manawatu Sub-Centre, Mr It. A. Levy. The secretary was voted an honorarium for his services.
It was decided tp open the season on Thursday next with a road race round the Makino block.
The meeting discussed a letter from the Clieltenham-Kiwitea Sports Club, inviting suggestions regarding cycle and other events at the annual sports at Cheltenham. The meeting decided to make some recommendations in connection with the alteration of the programme of cycle events. Mr J. Madden was reappointed club handicapper for the cycle events and Mr O. Scotney for the athletics. Mr J. Lamberton was also re-elected club starter.
