AORANGI DANCE
(From Oiu* Own Correspondent.) TAONUI, Oct. 26. The Maori mission dance, hold in the meeting-house as a conclusion to the garden party, was very well attended. Mr and Mrs Durie and a willing band of helpers who conducted the function are to bo congratulated on the beautiful decorations of streamers in red, green and ycllmv, together with prettily coloured lighting effects, these adding to the brilliancy of the scene. The orchestra was in good form, while the floor w T as in exceptionally fine order. The ice-cream and solt drink stall did good business. The beautiful supper, which included fruit salad and cream, was much appreciated by all. Social items made a pleasant diversion and were all cordially received, those contributing to the programme being: Misses bland R. Hynes, vocal duct; Messrs Dune Rros, Mcrrit and Siinion, Maori haka; Miss A. Karchana, vocal solos; Miss Iv. 'lc Oka, step dances. There w r cre not so many fancy dresses as one would have liked to na\ c seen. The judging w r as carried out by Mis C. Clarke of Fcilding, the prizes being awarded to Miss Jean Chcctham (Old English Lady), and Mr Rankin (Chinaman). The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Dewar and Mr Turner, while the Monte Carlo prize went to Mrs T. Graham and Miss Ada Roorc (Foxton). At a suitable juncture, Rev. P. H. Leonard, of Marten, voiced the thanks of the organisers of the day’s functions for the generous supp which had been given making the day such a success.
