SPEECH AT CANBERRA. ATTAINMENT OF OBJECTS. STDENG7HENING OF FRIENDSHIP. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (British Official Wireless.) Received October 26, 11.55 a.m. RUGBY, Oct. 25. The Duke of Gloucester received members of the Australian Commonwealth Parliament at the Federal Capital, Canberra, to-day, and in replying to the loyal address said that in carrying out his mission at tlic bidding of the King he had at J forth in the hope that lus visit would help to strengthen the bonds existing between the peoples of the Empire and increase the advantage enjoyed under the free system of government. The welcome he had received ever since he had landed in Australia had encouraged him to think that his object was achieved. He particularly valued the greetings from Australia’s representatives in the heart of the Commonwealth and asked them to express to the people his gratitude for the wonderful reception everywhere accorded hint and his regrets that he was unable to see more of their country and the conditions in which they lived. ENGAGEMENTS AT CANBERRA. Received October 26, 8.5 a.m. CANBERRA, Oct. 26. Official calls were paid to the Duke at Government House yesterday afternoon. The Duke later attended a youth rally at the Capitol Theatre, when 1400 young people representing all the organisations at Canberra gave him a rousing cheer. The State Ball last night was a brilliant affair. ROYAL STANDARD STOLEN. FROM DUKE’S CAR. Received October 26, 10.40 a.m. CANBERRA, Oct. 26. A souvenir-hunter removed the Royal Standard from the Duke’s motor-car. The theft occurred during the State ball while the car was in the Government garage.
