ATHLETICS IN DOMINION.

HIGHER STANDARD SOUGHT. Per Press Association. AVELLINGTON, Oct. 24. Aiming at raising the standard of athletics throughout New Zealand, the following notices of motion, brought forward by Mr H. Amos, were tabled at a meeting of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association to-night: That the association enter into negotiations with the Australian Olympic Association with a view to arranging regular annual meetings between Australia and New Zealand in athletics cycling, swimming, boxing, wrestling, and rowing; that the association assist national associations to obtain better facilities in the four centres for training _ athletes—cinder paths and jumping pits for athletes, tepid swimming baths for swimmers, and banked tracks for cyclists. The meeting decided to seek the advice of Dr, E. A. Porritt , Mr J, E. Lovelock, and Mr Evan Hunter (secretary of the British Olympic Association and Empire Games Association) as to the time that should be available for New Zealand athletes after arriving in _ England to compete at overseas meetings,
