BULLS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) BULLS, Oct. 24. Mr G. D. Flower performed the opening ceremony on the Bulls tennis courts on Saturday, and Mrs May Mansell hit the first ball over the net. Mr J. E. Walker, chairman of the Town Board, attendod and congratulated members on the fine courts and beautiful surroundings and wisliod all a very successful' season. A progressive Yankee tournament resulted in Mrs May Mansell and Mr Roy Mansell winning. At afternoon tea Mr Flower took the opportunity of convoying to Mrs Rowland Guy tho good wishes of members for her married life, and handed her a small present. Apologies for absence woro received from Mr J. Linklater, M.P., and from the Marton Tennis Club.
Ideal weather prevailed on Labour Day whon tho bowling and croquet greens were officially opened by Mr J. 11. l’errett, president of the Bowling Club. Mrs Pcrrctt threw up the “kitty” and tho first bowl, and Mr W. A. Doughty (patron of tho Croquet Club) bit tho first ball through a hoop. Afternoon tea was served by tho ladies. Competitions on tho croquet green were won as follow: —Golf, Mrs Pearson (Oroua) and Mrs Tapp (Northern) ; angles, Airs Stovcns (Bulls). The principal topic here now is the Rangitikei race meeting which will be held on Saturday next. First-class acceptances have been received, and the course and appointments are in splondid order. Judging by the inquiries received from outside centres, the meeting should bo a very attractive ono, and, given a fine day, the attendance will bo very large. On tho holiday teams of riflemen from Bulls, Cheltenham, and Turakina travelled to AVanganui to take part in tho annual match for the Bushy Park Cup (presented by Mr G. F. Moore), and after a splendid contest the trophy was won by Cheltenham, thus breaking tho Wanganui winning sequence of seven years. Ml* Chas. AAhlliamson, president of the Cheltenham Club, was top-scorer for the day with 102, and S. Mayhcw (Cheltenham), E. S. King (Wanganui), and C. M. Broughton (Bulls) also shot well.
