CYCLE CONTEST.

HARD TASK COMING. THROUGH HIGH COUNTRY. Received October 25, 10.15 a.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 25. Methouard, the Frenchman, was leading lor the championship honours at the end of tile fourth stage of the Centenary Thousand cycling contest, gaining first place and fastest time from Bendigo to Wangaratta (157 miles). Opperman and Cruise were second and third on points. Thursday will be the hardest stage of the race, the route being through alpine country to Omeo (154 miles) over the Sotham Heights Road of 6000 feet. . The race ends on Saturday.
