MARTON, Sept. 8. A concert and play was held in the Parish Hall on Thursday in aid of the funds of the St. Stephen’s Church choir. There were nine concert items, all of which were much appreciated, and a one-act play, “The Leak,” which was well done by a east of four. Rev. W. llaine thanked Miss Mitchell, of Nga Tawa, for the loan of the stage property used in the production of the play. He also thanked Mr llubery, of Nga Tawa, for arranging the scenes. MARTON, Sept, 10.

The monthly meeting of the Marton Junction Women’s Institute was held last week, Mrs Gregory presiding. Votes of sympathy with Mrs E. Matthews and Mrs IV. Morrison and family in their bereavement were passed, members standing in silence. Mrs Gregory outlined the subjects lor the lectures to be givdn by Miss Macmillan during lier visit to Marton and explained tlie study groups that follow. Parcels were handed in to be passed on to the District Nurse for distribution among needy cases. Afternoon tea was' served by the hostesses, MesdamesJSanders (chief), Fitzgerald, Bissett and Ledingham, Miss Emeus and Miss Tassall. An interesting address was given by Rev. P. H. Leonard, of Marton. Airs Alclvor thanked Air Leonard for his very helpful talk and members showed their appreciation in the usual way. The competition for the best butterless sponge sandwich was won by Airs Porteous, with Airs Franke second and Mrs H. Alatthews third. Aliss Rita Winstanley delighted the company with a sword dance and the remainder of the social half-hour was spent in community singing, Airs Fade being tlie accompaniste. In a special challenge match played at Alar-ton Park on Saturday afternoon, Athletic, holders of the Taranaki Cup, defeated Halcombe at hockey by 4 goals to 1 after a good game.
