SOUTHERN HAWKE’S BAY CHAAIRIONSHIP. KURU HEADS THE LIST. The Southern Hawke’s Bay golf championship was commenced at the week-end on the Tahoraite course. There was a big entry drawn from a wide area, among those taking part being L. Seifert, junr. (the titleholder), K. S. Glendinning and A. E. Guy. The best round was a 76 by J. D. Kuril, only three others —L. Reid, N. P. Green and L. Seifert — managing to break 80. Following were the best cards returned for the qualifying rounds: Southern Hawke’s Bay Championship.—J D. Kuril 76, L. Reid 77, N. P. Green 79, L. Seifert 79, J. Hape 80, W. J. Forsyth 80, K. S. Glendinning 80, A. Fraser 82. Six players tied for last place, and Fraser won on the count hack. Congelation- Handicap.—Farquharson bate Gibbons, Cowper heat Vigers, Alangin heat Ruby, Yortt beat Gordon. The trophy for the best gross score in the qualifying round was won by J. D. Kuru. The medal handicap (morning play) was won by J. Gibbons, who handed in a card of 69 net. The bogey handicap, played in the afternoon, was won by P. Saunders, who finished 4 lip. MANAWATU CLUB. TOURNEY AT HOKOWHITU. A benefit tournament was played at the Alanawatu Club’s links at the weekend, when a large number of players took part. The first day events were four-ball bogey handicaps and a mixed foursome, and some good cards were handed in despite the heavy state oi the fairways and the greens. During the mroning the bogey handicaps were played and the men s event was won by A. Strange and AV. R. Beattie with a card of 9 up. The ladies’ event was won by Alisses AI. and K. Garner, who handed in a card of 2 up. The following are the best scores in the bogey handicap:-—A. Strange and AV. R. Beattie, 9 up; L. Potter and B. Alarsack, 6 up; AV. E. AVinks and C. J. In the first round of the AVairarapa championship he beat AV. G. Fisher, 5 and 4 but in the second round went down to J. P. Hornabrook, 6 and 4.
