FOXTON.

(From Our- Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, June 1. The friends of Mr A. Crowe, of Norbiton Road, will regret to learn that his condition is causing anxiety. Mr G. Woods is making a good recoverw from injuries sustained in a recent accident. Air W. E. Barnard, ALP., of Napier, was a visitor to Foxton this week. He is an ex-Foxton boy. The friends of Mr and Mrs H. Coley will be pleased to learn that they are both now well on the road to recovery. Air K. Bortaroff, of Gladstone Street, is incapacitated owing to contracting blood poisoning while at work. Air S. Alansfield sustained an injury to his hand while at work. Local duck shooters are looking forward to unsettled weather over the week-end, as the holiday is generally regarded as being the last shoot of any consequence of the season. The season, so far, has been a poor one in this part of the district. Whitebait fishermen are now commencing to get ready for the whitebait season which should commence at an early date in the Alanawatu River. Anticipations are for a good “run” as during the past year or eo catches have been very poor. Considerable interne' is centred around the action of . the Horowhenua Rugby Union in calling for an inquiry into the demonstration which took plaoe at the close of the Foxton-Athletic junior football matoh played on Easton Park last Saturare nt a premium in Foxton at present. It is many years sinoe this has been the case. The Railway Department has a gang of men engaged in renovating the shipping pens on the wharf and oarrying out maintenance work in the railway yards. The goodshed, whioli sank along the west side in the recent earthquake, has been raised and strengthened. Rev A Fothenngham delivered an interesting travel talk on Africa in the Presbyterian solioolroom, on Thursday evening, under the auspices of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Social Guild, He was acoorded a vote of thanks. Air Fotheringham will continue his series of talks on this interesting subject during the winter.
