DEBTS TO AMERICA.
NATIONS NOT YET ADVISED. WASHINGTON, May 22. The formal notification Notes always sent by the United States to debtor nations 30 days before instalments on war debts fall due have not .yet been dispatched to tlie 13 nations that have instalments of 175,000,000 dollars payable on June 15. No explanation was given at the State Department for the fact that the notifications are now seven days overdue, except that no debit listings had been received from the Treasury Department. The delay in sending the Notes was said in well-informed circles, however, to have been deliberate, to await the disclosure of the President’s views on the question in his war debt message fjp Congress this week. Discussions have been held by tlie President with Sir Ronald Lindsay, the British Ambassador, concerning Britain’s instalment, but there is no confirmation of reports that a compromise settlement has been agreed upon.
