RONGOTEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA. May 22. The monthly meeting of tho Rongotea I own Board was hold last evening. There were present :—Messrs L. H. Yarrall (chairman), T. Fraser, W. Amoy, S. J. Tcaz a i r ■“* ”* Applications were received from T. Fraser and S. Teaz, for renewals of slaughterhouse licenses. (Granted.) Tho hospital levy of £3l 12s lOd showed a considerable increase, being £5 15s 4d more than the previous year. Notice was given of tho intention to strike tho general and sanitary rates; those arc to remain the samo as before. It was considered inadvisable to reduce tho rates this year, as tho Coronation .Hall requires considerable renovation, and it will bo necessary to procure another piano, tho one in present use being beyond repair. Provision was. also nmdo in the estimates for a contribution toward the cost of tar-sealing tho highway through Rongotea, which it is expeoted will be done this year. Mr Amey reported that ho had been successful in securing a paddock for the board’s use, the rental to bo £6 per annum. Immediate action is to bo taken to recover all rates outstanding for two years. Accounts totalling £3l were passed for payment.
A game of basketball was played on the local sports ground on Monday, between teams representing Carnarvon and Rongotea. The former were successful by 4 goals to 1.
