“DISMAL DORA LAW.”
VISITORS LEFT THIRSTY. “I regret the decision, because the Alagistrates making the order know the district and what its residents and visitors want,” said Air Justice Humphreys, concurring with the Chief Justice, Lord Hewart, and Air Justice Avory that the Steyning (Sussex) Alagistrates’ order, extending the opening of hotels half an hour in summer time, was illegal. The decision affects 120 holiday resorts in the South of England, where the licensing justices have extended hotel hours since 1921.
The London Daily Mail, in a leader, regards the prohibition of summer-time extension of drinking hours as unfortunate, “as it will deter the visits of foreigners and send British abroad,_ as peoplo hate being treated like silly children and deprived of the right of judgment. It i 9 duo to a Dismal Dora, imbecile, mischievous law, the reform of which a handful of faddists has repeatedly prevented.”
