AIR MAIL CONTRACT. SINGAPORE TO BRISBANE. INAUGURATION OF SERVICE. (United Press Association.-—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 20, 10.10 a.m. CANBERRA, April 20. Announcing that Quantas Empire Airways, Ltd., were the successful tenderers for the Singapore-Darwin-Brisbane section, of tlie England to Australia Ail- Mail, the Minister of Defence, Sir George Pearce, said that, after the commencement of the official service, English mails w-ould roach Australia in less than fourteen days. Tlie director of Quantas Airways, Ltd., stated that the Singapore-Brisbane service w-ould be inaugurated with six of the latest four-engined De Haviliand ’planes, which were fitted to carry three passengers, in addition to the mails.

The crew will be Australian. A stai-t on the service is expected in December or January-.
