(To the Editor.) Sir, —Your issue of the 17th April contains a letter signed “M. A. Eliott, iti which he says “Confiscation is the doctrine preached by Major Douglas. Your correspondent does not make any attempt to prove this statement, nor has it ever been proved by any of the critics of the Douglas Social Credit theory. 1 feel sure there must be many hundreds of your leaders who would like to be enlightened in respect to Mr Eliott’s statement, and lie is here given an opportunity of so doing. The local Social Credit Group is prepared to arrange a public debate, with Mr Eliott on the subject of liis statement, under the following conditions wnicu you will agree arc reasonable: That Mr Eliott affirm that the Douglas Social Credit doctrines are confiscatory; that a representative of the Douglas Social Credit movement take the negative; Mr Eliott to select the place, date, and time in Palmerston North for the debate; that should he care to make a small charge for admission to the debate, any surplus, after expenses have been deducted, be handed over to the Mayor’s Relief Funds; Mr Eliott to select a chairman to preside and the audience to appoint a judgeor referee. The other matters referred to in the letter in question may be taken for what they are worth.—l am, ° tC ’ O. P.
