CANCER CONTROL.

TREATMENT WITH RADIUM. CANBERRA, April 17. •Officially opening' the fifth annual cancer conference, Mr James Guy, Acting-Minister of Health, declared that in the past five years 11,500 cases of cancer had been treated with radium. Of 3071 cases of operable cancer treated with radium in the same period 62 per cent, were known to be free of symptoms, while only 4 per cent were known to have died. However, despite the vigorous campaign against cancer mortality, the rate had increased considerably until one in every 7.3 deaths last year was attributed to this disease. The Commonwealth Government in the past seven years had spent £153,000 on cancer control. Several New Zealand delegates are attending the conference.
