PERSONAL.
Dr. AY. H. Scotter is at present relieving on the staff at the West End School after filling a similar role at the Boys’ High School. There is reported to be a slight improvement in the condition of Air V. Crichton, service officer for the Alanawatu Automobile Association, who is seriously ill with pneumonia. Air A. A. Mitchell, of Lower Aorangi Bead, Kairanga, was at today's meeting of the Kairanga County Council confirmed as assessor for the county for the ensuing three yeares. Air D. Fastier, of St. Clair, Dunedin, a former resident of Palmerston North, has ben spending several days in this city. Air hastier is keenly interested in bowls and lias held a seat on the New Zealand Council. He was a leading player of the Alanawatu Club when living in Palmerston North. A well-known Alaori clergyman, Rev. Piripi Rakena, died at Alangamuka, Hokianga. He had been a minister,of the Alethodist Church for 52 years. He had at various times held charges in the AVaikato, King Country, AVanganui and Taranaki districts, as well as north of Auckland. A son of deceased, Rev. R. P. Rakena, is superintendent of the Taranaki-AVanganui Methodist Alission. Air S. AVilliams, first assistant at the West End School, has been appointed to the charge of a school in the Eketahuna district. At last night’s meeting of the School Committee, the chairman (Air G. Tremaine) expressed regret at the departure of Air AVilliams, and wished him success in his new sphere. The headmaster (Air H. AV. Jackson) stated that the school was losing a faithful, conscientious and tactful teacher. Air D. Collis was, at to-day’s meeting of the Kairanga County Council, extended congratulations by Cr. A\ r . R. Hopcroft on his appointment to the position of president of the Alanawatu A. and P. Association. The speaker stated that Air Collis, who is chairman of the County Council, had been a valued member of the committee for a number of years a.nd he felt certain that he would fill the position with credit.
