WOODVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLK, April 16. Air P. Martin, deputy-registrar of the Supreme Court, Napier, is visiting hie parents in AYoodville. The annual meeting of the Woodville Chess Club was hold on Friday. Air H. G. Dorrington was in the chair. A vote of sympathy was passed to Air R. A. Offwood in his recent illness and lie was congratulated on his recovery. The president was accorded a vote of thanks for the excellent manner in which he had conducted his office, and general regret was expressed at his departure for Otahuhu. It was decided to open the season on Friday. The following officers wore elected: President, Mr 11. P. Horne; vice-president, Air F. Page; secretary, Air T. A. B. Sinclair; committee, Alessrs Al. AJunro, G. Hartridge and Seeker, with the officers ex officio.
Before Alessrs H. P. Horne and B. Norman, J.P.’s, at the Alagistrate’s Court, yesterday, Henry Bigham was fined 10s and 10s costs for driving a car in Vogel Street, after dark, with only one headlight burning. A similar fine, with 13s . costs, was imposed on Albert, Edward Oliver.
