MILK PRICES

MOVE IN CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. The milk retailers ot Christchurch decided at a meeting to-day to support a scheme for the stabilisation of milk prices similar to that in operation at Auckland under the terms of the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Act, 1933. Under this Act the prices paid by retailers to vendors and the prices to bo charged by vendors to consumers are fixed by an authority representative of the local bodies, including the City Council, retailers and prodii'ers. It ivas stated at the meeting that the main object was to come to an agreement by which producers and retailers could secure a fair price for the product and service. There had been serious price-cutting, chiefly by shops which sometimes sold at cost price in order to induce customers in the hope that trade would be extended to other stock.
