Among tho quotations were: Lambs, 8s to 9s 9d; ewes* 9s to 11s 4d ; wethers, 10s to 143 sd; ' Avcaner cattle, 203 to 36?"; 22year steers, £3 8s 6d. Akc ake was being grown commercially as a garden tree in Palmerston North. It was claimed that they wore blight,proof, besides being quick in growth and hardy. . Some 37 years before, it. was reported, Russia had ** sold Alaska to America for a little under £1,500,000. The Russian fleet had been so depleted that it Avas thought hopeless to rely on sea power, so that Russia’s hopes were in her army, said a London message.
