ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH

The meeting of St. Andrew's congregation on Thursday night of this week is for the purpose of receiving and considering the report of the selection committee of the congregation in connection with the appointment of a new minister. The Presbyterian form of government was conceived by the great reformer John Calvin and instituted by him in Geneva. One of his keenest students and most ardent disciples was John Knox, who introduced Calvin’s principles of church government into Scotland. The distinctive principle of Presbyterianism is its democracy; and the name is derived from the New Testament office of presbytery or elder. The members of a Presbyterian congregation have the sole right of choosing their own minister, and it is in connection with that privilege that the meeting on Thursday night is being held, when a very large attendance is expected. Rev. J. Paterson, M.A., of Wanganui, will preside. Those requiring a car are requested to telephone Mr J. B. Gerrand, No. 5236.
