MYSTERIOUS THEFT
FRODI WELLINGTON SHOW. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 6. Complete mystery surrounds the disappearance of £4O from a safe in the office of the Wellington Show Association at the Easter Show at about 10.30 o'clock this morning. The money was all silver coin and, it is understood, had been brought from the bank, which did not open until 10 o’clock. It was then placed in the safe, which was closed but not locked. The tlreft, which must have taken place soon after the money was placed in the safe, did not remain undiscovered for long, as a member of tho staff had occasion to go to the safe shortly after 10.30 a.m. and immediately noticed the absence of the money.
Few people were about the show at that time and it is presumed that the thief hod gained access to the safe during the temporary absence of the office staff. Dir G. Dlitchell, the secretary of the Show Association, refused to discuss the matter further than to admit that a large sum had been taken. A police investigation is in progress.
