NEWBURY

(From Our Own Correspondent.) NEWBURY, March 6. A meeting of the Hall Committee was held last week. Present: Mr J. Linklatcr, M.P. (chairman), Mr M. Hansen (secretary), Mcedurnes Collins, Choetham, Shaw, Hamlin and Messrs Cheetham, Scrimshaw, Callaway, Dudson and McCulloch. Accounts were passed for payment, Mr Linklatcr congratulating tho secretary on the fine work carried out during the year. 11c thanked all who had taken part in the euchre tournaments, donors of cakes and sandwiches and those who had given their services in any way to make the functions a success. Messrs Linklater and Collins again donated tho points prizes for the now season.

On Tuesday evening the final meeting of tho school committee was held. Present: Mr Ilansen (chairman), Messrs Ross (secretary), Paul, Death and Callaway (headmaster). A number of accounts were passed for payment. The secretary reported that tho year would end with a credit balance. Correspondence from • the Education Board regarding the keeping of accounts and election of school committees was read. A letter from tho Manawatu Oroua School Committees’ Association regarding transport of pupils was read it was decided to givo the remit every support. The headmaster reported that Miss R. Lancaster had been temporarily withdrawn from the staff to relievo at Awahuri South. Before the meeting concluded, Mr Hansen thanked tho committee for their loyal support, and for their co-operation. Especially did they owe a debt of gratitude to Mr Ross for his work as secretary, he (Mr Hansen) only realised tho tremendous work that had to he done when he went through the balance-sheet. The headmaster also thanked the committee, for the splendid, work done and for tho harmonious relationship that had always existed. Mrs r. McMenamin and daughters, of Makaronui, Ohakune, have been the guests of Mr Callaway, school-house, Newbury. Mr J. A. Cheetham and family arc at their seaside residence at Paraparaumu.
