VICTIM OF SHARK.

TERRIBLE WOUNDS INFLICTED.

SYDNEY, March 12. While bathing in the surf at Dee Why, three miles from Manly, to-dav, Frank Riley, aged 16, was so severely injured by a large shark that he died shortly after being pluckily rescued by Laurie O’Toole and other members of the local life-saving club. Riley was standing between the second line of breakers in only three feet of water when the shark made its first attack but missed. It turned sharply and attacked again a second after Riley gave the alarm, and tore off his leg at the hip, also the lower portion of his back. . His plight was noticed by other bathers, all of whom scampered to the beach, crying out “Shark.” Riley, when brought ashore, tried to speak but died before medical aid arrived. His wounds were so terrible that he had little chance of surviving, according to a doctor who visited the scene.
