SOUTHDOWN SALE

FAIR AT FEILDING. UNEVEN DEAIAND. Although the top, price of 40gns. for a stud Southdown at the Feilding Ram Fair was five guineas above the peak price for a Romney stud ram on the previous day, there was not the same demand for this well-known breed yesterday as had been shown for Romneys on Thursday. The offering was a heavy one and there was a large attendance of buyers, but the demand fell short of vendors’ expectations. The same evidence was noticeable with the Southdowns as applied to the Romneys—that sheep showing definite lines of type, build and constitution were wanted at prices quite up to vendors’ reserves, but for the more inferior lines the sale was slower. The highest price of 40gns. was paid for a ram from Air A. C. Vile, Bulls, by Alessrs Ijearce Bros., of Sanson, while Alessrs Ellis Bros., Bulls, and E. AI. Hare, Cheltenham, shared second highest price of 28gns. Air Vile also took peak honours in the flock sale, obtaining 18 gns. for a rani exhibited in one of the show classes. This breeder enjoyed a good demand throughout and emerged with an average of lOgns. for a considerable offering of flock rams. The sheep in the show classes met with a brisk inquiry, but for the ordinary run the average would be in the vicinity of 4gtis. Details of the sales are as follow:
