CRICKET IN INDIA.
THE M.C.C. MATCH. Received December 1, 9.55 a.m. • CALCUTTA, Nov. 30. In their match with Western India, M.C.C. declared with their first innings overnight score of 6 for 254. Western India, who made 64 in the first innings, made 249 in the second strike (Gurter 61, Verity 6 for 83).
COUNTY CRICKET. RESIDENTIAL QUALIFICATION. Dominion cricketers now Tn England will find the path to county honours simplified if Northamptonshire’s proposal to the Advisory County Cricket Committee, is carried. It is proposed to delete section 2 of rule 4 of the County Cricket Rules and to substitute the following: “That a cricketer who has not played for a first-class county or for a British Dominion or State shall be qualified to play for any county in which he has resided during the previous 12 months, and in which he is still residing. If such cricketer shall be engaged for any county lie, nevertheless, shall be subject to rule 11.” Rule 11 reads: “A cricketer who is engaged by or has played for a county and wishes to qualify for another county must obtain a written consent from the former county before commencing residence in the latter. His residential qualification shall not commence to run until such consent has been given, but such consent shall not be withheld unreasonably. A British Dominion or State shall, for the purpose of this rule, be regarded as a. county. A county wishing to engage a cricketer who is engaged by or has played for another county must give written notice to the latter before commencing negotiations with the cricketer. A cricketerer who wishes to play for the county of his birth (subject to rule 2) must, give notice to the county for which he has played under a residential qualification if he intends to leave it.”
