WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. Trading was small, but there was a bright tone on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, values generally being firm on an active and well-spread demand. Government loans attracted more attention, quotations being steady at last rates. The 4 per cent. 6tock, 1955, was again traded at £lO2. Local body debentures were extremely quiet, and Wellington City, 5j per cents., 1940, shaded 5s to £lOl 15s. Practically no change was seen in bank shares, which were very quiet. Pastorals were very firm. Dalgetys strengthened to £lO ss, sellers coming in at £lO 11s. Goldsbrough Morts advanced to 31s, sellers asking Is higher. National Mortgage, A’s, moved up another Is to 595. There were very minor movements in gas, insurance, and meat shares. There was an improved inquiry for timber shares. New Zealand Breweries shaded to 36s lOd, following a sale late on Wednesday at 375. Firm conditions ruled for miscellaneous industrials and others, which were in strong demand, with few sellers showing. New Zealand Drugs were fid up at 72s 6d. Mining shares were dull. Bell Kilgours at Is 2d, and Big Rivers at Is, were the only traders. Waihis were a shade better at 26s 6d. YESTERDAY’S QUOTATIONS.
