DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Association met at Palmerston Nortn yesterday, Mr S. A. Broadbelt presiding. Others present were Messrs P. Hansen, J. White, J. Boyce, E. C. Raikes, J. Devine, and C. Algar. An apology for absence was received from Mr F. J. Nathan. Mr Broadbelt was unanimously elected president for the ensuing year. Returning thanks, he stated that now the association was a joint one of cheese and butter representatives much of value to the industry should result. He extended a welcome to the new members.

It was pointed out that 27 factories were represented and that the membership was increasing. Administrative affairs of the association were discussed, there being an expression of opinion in favour ot holding monthly meetings. Cheese and butter committees were appointed to submit recommendations to the executive concerning their own particular interests.

Objection to the proposed Bill now before the House of Representatives to extend the. period of daylight saving until the end of April was voiced by Mr Boyce. He said that it would affect farmers taking milk and cream to the factories and it would be difficult to meet the new conditions. Milk ‘'could not be accepted at the factory after 9 o’clock unless a license was obtained, and if a factory manager turned suppliers away he was likely to get into trouble with the directors of the company. If the time was extended another half . hour it would mean that milking would have to be finished by daylight at the end of April. Mr Boyce added that he would not object to daylight saving if regulations regarding the time of delivery were not in force. It was decided to forward a letter of protect to the Minister of Agriculture and to Messrs J. A. Nash, J. Linklater Hon. J. G. Cobbe and Mr W.H. Field, M.P.’s.
