TRADE WITH FRANCE.
AUSTRALIA’S RELATIONSHIP. Received December 1. 1.5 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 30. The Australian Press Association correspondent at Paris says that Mr Voss has informed the Commonwealth that France desires to negotiate a trade treaty. The Ministry of Commerce spokesman points out. that despite Australian wheat and butter being subjected to a 200 per cent, surtax. Australia’s exports to France in 1932 were worth £7,000,000, whereas France’s exports to Australia were only worth £1,200,000. The treaty may enable France to counter the Japanese silk invasion of Australia and give an advantage to Australian wool, fruit and frozen meat in the French markets.
