THIRTY YEARS AGO.

EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” OCTOBER 31, 1903. Mr E. P. Sealey, the first man to obtain photographs of the Mount Cook region, had passed away. Carrying a 601 b. camera, he had ascended the Hoclistetter, the Dome and the Hooker glaciers. It was also claimed that he had been the first man to visit Mount Cook. At a special meeting of the Oroua County Council a petition signed by 300 ratepayers, asking for the dissolution of the Manchester Road Board, was considered. The petition also asked that the Road Board should be merged in the Oroua County. It was decided to accede to the request. The first of Messrs Hatrick and Coy’s, new steamers, to connect Wanganui with Taumarunui by river had arrived by the Athenic and was to be assembled at Wanganui.
