BANKRUPTCY LAW.
PENALTY INFLICTED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 27. A jury in the Supreme Court to-day found Leonard Owen Bellette, a legal enquiry agent, of Wellington, guilty of four charges of obtaining credit while an, undischarged bankrupt. Tlie Chief Justice sentenced accused to 12 months’ imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. “If I gave you your fr.eedom, it would be no' more or less than offering a premium on your offences,” said Sir Michael Myers, answering a plea for leniency. “You go into the witnessbox and endeavour by false testimony to induce the jury to believe that honest witnesses have given perjured evidence. Not only that, but you induce your wife and another to give false testimony. You have aggravated your offence very greatly by the course you have adopted.”
