JURIES IN CIVIL CASES.
AN AMENDING BILL. WELLINGTON, Oct. 28. Certain alterations in the present use of juries in civil cases are proposed in a Juries Amendment Bill, which Mr F. W. Schramm (Lab., Auckland East) asked leave of the House of Representatives yesterday to Introduce. The Bill provided that where the amount claimed does not. exceed £SOO either party may obtain a jury of four by giving clue notice to that effect. If the value in dispute exceeds £SOO the action is to be tried before a judge and a jury of 12 unless both parties agree to a jury oi four, or to having no jury at all. The Bill also provides for the selecting of special juries drawn from persons engaged in the occupation or trade in connection with which the plaintiff was injured to hear actions for personal injuries founded upon breach of contract.
