SWIMMING.

Y.M.C.A. CLUB. The annual report of the Y.M.C.A. Amateur Swimming and Life-saving Club states that the membership at the end of the season was .22 —11 men, 7 ladies, 2 boys, and 2 girls—as compared with 26 for the previous season. The club competition for the Eyre Cup over distances of 25, 33 1-3, 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards breaststroke, all handicap races, and the Dispensary Cup over distances of 25, 33 1-3 yards freestyle and 26 yards breaststroke again produced keen racing. The Eyre Cup was won by Stuart Hopwood with 11 points ; Bruce Weeks being runner-up with 10 points, while Miss D. Weeks annexed the Dispensary Cup with 13 points, Misses R. and M. Linklater, tieing for second place with 7 points each. A further competition was held comprising 15 events spread over several weeks, points being given: Ist place, 6; 2nd., 4: 3rd., 2; and 1 point for other members competing. T.. Twigge won this competition, gaining 51 points, M. Waugh occupying second place with 38 points,, and D. Smillio third place with 37£ points. _ The club was represented at the majority of inter-club carnivals with some measure of success. In the Weston J. Smith life-saving Rose Bowl competition the club was represented by T. Twigge and R. Haddon, who succeeded in retaining the rose bowl for the club. This is the fourth time in the six years of its competition that the club has held the rose bowl. The annual carnival was a success, financially and otherwise, approximately 300 people attending. The report adds: “We wish to convey the thanks of the club to the City Council for the use of the baths, Mr and Mrs McLeod for their valuable co-operation and assistance, and ali others who assisted the club in various ways throughout the season. In conclusion we wish to thank all club members for their support and Trust that they all will again assist the club towards having yet another sue cessful season.” The club commenced the year with a balance of 6s lOd and with the as sistance of the profit from the carnival amounting to £7 10s lid the bal* ance at the end of the season was £6 18s 9d, which was considered very satisfactory.
