Mrs A. Cornelius, who came from Ireland to visit her sons in Pahiatua, has left on. a visit to Mrs McWilliam, Mount Eden, Auckland. Miss Grace Austin, of the dental clinic, Wellington, who has been visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs R. C. Austin, Pahiatua, has returned to Wellington. The many friends of Mr and Mrs J. H. Petersen, Argyle Avenue, will regret to hear that their son Colin has had to enter a private hospital suffering from appendicitis. Mrs P. J. Cossum, of Sanson, who has been the guest of Mrs J. A’Court for the past six weeks, has left to stay with her daughter, Mrs Myhill, of Otakeho, Taranaki. Miss E. J. Young, of Dunedin, the president of the New Zealand Trained Nurses’ Association, returned from Europe by the Rangitiki this week. She represented the association at the International Conference of Nurses in Paris and Brussels in July. ( The engagement is announced between Kenneth Benn Myers, only son of the late Sir Arthur Myers, of Auckland, New Zealand, and of Lady Myers of 71, Upper Berkeley Street, London, and Margaret Blair Pirie, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Pirie,-of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. During an address to the Business Girls’ Club at Palmerston North, this week, Mrs J. Hulme, producer for the past twelve years for the Palmerston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, spoke of its activities. She stated that it was one of the most financial societies in New Zealand, and mentioned that, over the long period named, Mrs H. Palmer, who was a vice-president of the Business Girls’ Club, had been the society’s efficient wardrobe mistress. Miss I. V. McKenzie, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. McKenzie, of Palmerston North, was met by the members of the staff of the Wellington city engineer’s department recently when, in view of her approaching marriage, she was made the recipient of a canteen of cutlery and a dinner service. Congratulatory speeches were made by the city engineer (Mr G. A. Hart), the assistant city engineer (Mr F. N. Thompson), Mr M. J. Casey and Mr N. A. Grant. The marriage will take place in Palmerston North, but the bride-elect’s future home will be in Timaru.
