PUMICE LAND PROSPECTS.

DAIRYING POSSIBILITIES. Possibilities for the development of pumice land for dairying purposes are commented on in the annual report of the Department of Agriculture, presented in the House of Representatives by the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. C. E. Macmillan). The department ,had maintained its association with the Lands Department in the development of pumice country in the Rotorua district, the report states. A further portion of the land grassed at Ngakuru ha.d been subdivided and dairy herds established. Continued high production from newly-established pastures on this type of country indicated the possibilities of greatly extending the dairving zones of the Dominion, providing the market outlook warranted the initial cost of establishment. During the year some 1930 acres of the Galatea Estate had been cultivated and sown in grass, in addition to 568 acres of annual crops.
